Details

Elmfield Family Sessions are a part of Elmfield Rudolf Steiner School. There are several sessions per week to which parents or carers can come with small children (0-5 years old). These sessions provide seasonal activities for parents and little ones, natural toys, songs, games and a snack as well as an opportunity to meet like-minded people and have a chat.

The sessions can also provide some insights into the school and Steiner education Elmfield Rudolf Steiner School is an independent school with 320 places for children aged from 3 to 17 situated on a green and leafy campus in Stourbridge, 13 miles West of Birmingham. Pupils follow the internationally renowned Steiner Waldorf curriculum and, in addition, in Upper School, take GCSE examinations. The education is developed from the philosophy and educational insights of Rudolf Steiner, which recognises that children learn in different ways at different stages of their development. Steiner Waldorf schools introduce subjects in ways that correspond to the developmental needs of the growing child, supporting the natural emergence of personal responsibility, social awareness and intellectual thought. The School offers a balance of academic, artistic and practical activities.

It is our aim to enable young people to develop their full potential and prepare for meeting life's challenges and constant changes. The mixed gender and ability classes have each about 20 to 25 pupils. Elmfield's facilities include a hall and gymnasium and specialised rooms for art, crafts and music. New buildings were opened in 1979 and 1995, providing additional classrooms, a well-equipped science laboratory, a special hall for music, dance and movement, and facilities for information technology. These are surrounded by beautiful grounds with a variety of play, teaching and activity areas. Most pupils continue their education at local 6th form colleges where they are greatly appreciated for their interest in learning and uptake of a huge variety of opportunities. A high proportion of our pupils go to university including many 'Oxbridge' colleges and pursue a wide variety of professions and life styles where they are generally much appreciated for their flexible and creative thinking and good social skills. One of a 1000 Steiner Schools worldwide, Elmfield School was founded in 1946. It is subject to OfSTED inspections which recognise its many strengths.
